The Charlie Parker Band

George Wyllie, is unquestionably Scotland’s most famous living sculptor, was specially commissioned in 1984 to concept and produce in metal two Charlie Parker Band sculptures for premises to be named CHARLIE PARKERS in Exchange Square - Glasgow, Scotland.

The designer / owner of the premises was Ken McCulloch, and very quickly this venue received iconic status.

Ken McCulloch has since achieved much greater fame via 1 Devonshire Gardens, Malmaison and now the Dakota chain of hotels along with Co-Director David Coulthard.

Both Band sculptures should be really be in one of Scotland's National Galleries, however they are now presently on sale.

The present owners bought them with the intention of creating a National Jazz Centre, where they would have been a stunning exhibition piece for such an endeavour.
